Assoc.Dr.Şeyda Ertekin is a faculty member at METU Computer Engineering Department.As the METU-BİLTIR Central Digital Transformation Platform Coordinator, he works in the execution of METU's Digital Transformation studies.He carries out Artificial Intelligence research at the Intelligent Systems Laboratory at METU, and simultaneously continues his work as a research scientist at the European Center for Nuclear Research (CERN).After receiving his undergraduate degree from METU Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Ertekin worked on defense industry projects at Aselsan for a while.Later, he continued his master's and doctoral studies in the USA and received his doctorate degree from Penn State University with the "best thesis award".During his doctorate, he worked at NEC Research Laboratories and developed widely used open source artificial intelligence algorithms and software.He later received an offer from MIT and continued his postdoctoral studies at MIT Sloan School of Management and MIT Computer Science & Artificial Intelligence Laboratory (CSAIL).He is one of the first researchers whose studies at MIT were supported by scholarship funds from the MIT Intelligence Initiative.His research areas and expertise are Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning and Big Data Analytics.He was among the MIT researchers who won the INFORMS "Innovative Applications in Analytics Award" with his predictive maintenance algorithms and mathematical models that predict malfunctions and explosions in the Manhattan / New York city electricity network in the USA.He currently manages projects at METU, in collaboration with MIT and CERN, to develop smart systems related to Artificial Intelligence science and technologies, especially in the fields of Energy, Industry 4.0 and IoT.Dr.Ertekin was listed among the top 30 Turkish women worldwide who inspire the global digital ecosystem by Digital Age magazine in 2018.
