He was born in Üsküdar in 1970.After completing his primary education here, he completed his secondary and high school education at Üsküdar Imam-Hatip High School between 1981-1988.He graduated from Marmara University, Faculty of Arts and Sciences, Department of History in 1992.In 1993, he was appointed as a research assistant in the same department.He completed his master's degree at Marmara University Turkic Studies Institute with his thesis titled "Establishment and Development of the Mamluk State: 1240-1260" in 1996, and his doctorate in 2006 with his thesis titled "Military-Slavery System in the Middle Ages".He studied Arabic and Middle Eastern Studies at the University of Jordan in 1993-1995, English at METU in the 1996-1997 academic year, and Middle Eastern Studies at the University of Edinburgh in 2000-2003.He worked as a faculty member at Damascus University between 2003 and 2005. He received the title of associate professor in 2011. Between 2011 and 2014, he served as deputy director of the Middle East Studies Institute at Marmara University and Head of the Department of Political History-International Relations.He was appointed to the position of professor in 2016.He served as vice rector at Yalova University in 2017.He was appointed as dean of Marmara University Faculty of Political Sciences in December 2017.At the same time, he established the Marmara University Jerusalem Research Center and became its director.He has been serving as the vice rector of Hoca Ahmet Yesevi International Turkish-Kazakh University since September 15, 2018. Between 1998 and 2016, he served as a member of the Islamic History and Civilization scientific committee of the Turkish Religious Foundation, Islamic History and Civilization. Between 2008 and 2017, he served as the coordinator and head of the research department at the Organization of Islamic Cooperation's Research Center for Islamic History, Art and Culture (IRCICA).He is on the editorial board and referee committee of many scientific journals related to his field and has organized nearly a hundred symposiums and scientific meetings.In addition to his books, editions and translations, he has many academic and popular articles on Islamic History and Civilization and the history and culture of the Middle East and the Arab geography. He is among the regular commentators of national TV channels as well as international channels broadcasting in Arabic and English such as al-Jazeera, BBC, RussiaToday.
